Chatterbox and the Great Duck Race
Chatterbox has joined in the 1st Norwich Sea Scouts Great Duck Race
for the Lord Mayor's annual Celebration.
The race starts at the Lady Julian Bridge (between Dragon Hall and
the Queen of Iceni pub at Riverside) at 1pm on Sunday 10th July 2011.
Come along and lend your support as hundreds of coloured plastic ducks
are set free in the river and make their way towards the Millennium
bridge,
Chatterbox are pleased to sponsor a commercial duck (a bit larger
than the others) and to enter into the competition. We will be decorating
our duck in the Chatterbox logo and hope to meet up with many volunteers,
supporters and listeners at the event!
Volunteers
Required
All Chatterbox staff are
volunteers. As such, we like to think of each team as a family, and
all positions offer opportunities for meeting new people, socialising
and generally sharing some pleasant conversation with like-minded people.
We have to give positions titles which sometimes appear unusual, but
all roles offer the opportunity to give a little time to a worthwhile
cause.
Team Leader / Editor
Working with ta friendly
team of volunteers you would be responsible for the smooth running of
the first part of the creation of that weeks' Chatterbox. From opening
up the offices to overseeing the wallet sorting and sub editing. You
should have a good nose for newsworthy items for the edition and be
able to collate the best of the weeks Evening News into a programme
format for recording later that evening.
Full training will be given.
Further information from
Technician Needed
The technician is a role
that has changed over the years from setting up and maintaining tape
recording equipment, managing and fixing high speed tape duplicators
to todays digital equipment and maintaining stock of players and memory
sticks. It is helpful to have a grounding in older technology as well
as being computer literate. Further information upon request.
Audio Recordists
We often have places for
sound recordists to work as part of the team. We currently have 4 recordists,
one with each team, but we would like to expand this number to allow
greater flexibility for teams, and occasionally there may be need for
a daytime recordist to be available. A desire to learn, or familiarity
with computer software for sound editing (nothing too complicated!)
would be appreciated. Further information upon request.
Wallet Sorters Needed!
Your commitment
would be to work on a Thursday at the Chatterbox office, from 1.45pm
to approximately 3.15pm, one week in every four.
This is the first
job in the day to produce the week’s Talking Newspaper. The cassettes
with the previous week’s recording have to be extracted from the
wallets, the wallets checked for any messages from listeners, the address
labels reversed, and the wallets sorted into numbered categories.
Checkers
We are looking
for checkers to join our teams. This vital role allows us to quality
control our output by having a team of volunteers check the tapes before
we send them out. This involves playing the tape at intervals to make
sure there is audio on it then fast forwarding and checking further
in. One Thursday evening in 4.
If you, or someone
you know is available for up to two hours on a Thursday and would like
to get involved then please email
our Volunteers' Officer or you can leave a message on 01603 765365.
Trial for Audio
We are currently trialing
a new system for the Audio Download facility. Please do try it out and
let us know your views.
Chris Skinner
Norfolk farmer and nature
lover, Chris Skinner, joins Chatterbox this week with the first of his
Seasonal Reports. Each Season Chris will come into the Chatterbox studios
to tell listeners about the changes coming for the 4 months ahead in
the natural world.
We know from listener feedback
that Chris, who broadcasts on BBC Radio Norfolk, is a much respected
commentator on wildlife and the natural world. His first report, Autumn,
is available on the audio download page.
A warm Chatterbox welcome
to Chris, who was as entertaining in the studio as he is on the air.
Origins of Chatterbox
Meg Muggridge has been interviewed
for the Wise Archive collection of people's stories from the 20th Century.
Meg tells all about the founding of Chatterbox and its progress over
the last 30 years.
